Robert Lyn Nelson utilizes a unique process for creating his monotype prints. He paints in oil on a copper plate, carefully layering colors and textures to achieve the desired effect. The plate is then pressed onto heavy art paper, transferring the image in a single, unique impression. Monotype printing, a process favored by artists like Edgar Degas and Henri Matisse, allows for a level of spontaneity and immediacy not always possible with other printmaking techniques.
