Mid-Day Maui: A Surreal Glimpse into Old Hawaii

Inspired by the enigmatic beauty of Da Vinci’s portraits, “Mid-Day Maui” is a captivating work of fine art that transports viewers to the heart of old Hawaii. A woman, adorned with a lei po’o (Hawaiian head lei), gazes out from a canvas that seems to part like a gentle breeze, revealing a breathtaking vista of Maui’s lush landscape.

The artist masterfully blends surrealism with realistic elements, creating a dreamlike atmosphere that evokes the tranquility and allure of the islands. A vibrant waterfall cascades down volcanic cliffs, while a tiny gecko, a symbolic guardian spirit, perches on the edge of reality. “Mid-Day Maui” is more than just a painting; it’s a portal to a timeless paradise, capturing the essence of Maui’s enduring magic.

From the artist: “My intention was to make the portrait which is painted in oil look like a charcoal drawing on paper and just sort of have it feel like old Hawaii. I love geckos which are everywhere so there’s a gecko crawling up the paper. When I think of Hawaii I think of blue skies and waterfalls and that would be her habitat in old Hawaii.”
