“Yin Yang”: A Cosmic Dance of Balance

Robert Lyn Nelson’s “Yin Yang” is a vibrant and compelling original mixed media artwork, executed in a distinct pop art style.

The piece centers around the iconic yin and yang symbol, rendered with dynamic brushstrokes and a rich color palette dominated by fiery oranges, reds, and blacks. Splashes and streaks of paint radiate outwards, creating an energetic, almost explosive aura around the central symbol. The two halves of the yin and yang are further enhanced by the inclusion of glossy, three-dimensional orbs – a cool blue within the white yin and a warm gold within the black yang. These elements contribute to the piece’s captivating depth and texture.

The yin and yang symbol, originating from ancient Chinese philosophy, represents the interconnectedness and interdependence of seemingly opposing forces. Yin, the white half, embodies passive, feminine, and receptive energies, while yang, the black half, represents active, masculine, and assertive energies. The small circles within each half symbolize the seed of the opposite within each – a reminder that balance is achieved through the integration of these complementary forces.

In “Yin Yang”, Nelson uses this potent symbol to explore the complexities of balance and the interplay of opposing forces within the human experience and the natural world.
